A novel methodology for design optimization of heat recovery steam generators with flow-induced vibration analysis

Design of compact, lightweight, and robust heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) is important for the implementation offshore bottoming cycles. In this work, a novel methodology integrating flow-induced vibration analysis proposed design optimization HRSG. The considers four main mechanisms, namely turbulent buffeting, vortex shedding, fluidelastic instability, acoustic resonance. corresponding sub-models are selected from literature estimating vibrations finned tube bundles. criteria included in problem as constraints, which affect decision solver simultaneously. demonstrated by three cases, not only geometric parameters but also operating set variables. With activating finds appropriate to meet requirements. comparison between optimizations with without constraints shows trade-off compactness, efficient transfer, possibility problems. This indicates importance consideration problems when designing such HRSGs.
