A Novel Catchment Estimation for Super-Resolution DEM with Physically Based Algorithms: Surface Water Path Delineation and Specific Catchment Area Calculation

چکیده
Hydrologists usually gain insights into topographic variability by using a high-performance algorithm to estimate the catchment area from digital elevation model (DEM) image. In literature, grid-based algorithms are more popular than contour-based algorithms; however, existing ones cannot reduce error when higher resolution DEM is available. This paper introduces new algorithm, formulated with physically-based concept, data. The formulation was derived semi-analytical solution of Laplace’s partial differential equation based on boundary element method (BEM). With this approach, can along smooth surface water paths (SWPs), which delineated in [1]. proposed validated standard synthetic surfaces, where theoretical specific areas (SCAs) for assessment exactly known. When estimating SCAs ordinary resolution, average estimated between 14.19 and 2.32%, but 77.8 17.0 %. resolutions, 12.5 0.88 meters, significantly reduces 15 0.8%.

Medial Axis Approximation of River Networks for Catchment Area Delineation
The hydrological catchment areas are commonly extracted from digital elevation models (DEMs). The shortcoming is that computations for large areas are very time consuming and even may be impractical. Furthermore, the DEM may be inaccessible or in a poor quality. This chapter presents an algorithm to approximate the medial axis of river networks, which leads to catchment area delineation. We pro...

متن کاملA Catchment Conflation Tool for Comparing DEM Derived River Networks
This paper describes a tool for identifying topologically matched locations in vector stream networks extracted from different DEMs of the same catchment. The tool has applications in providing quantitative comparisons of stream network position and topological differences as well as providing a scalable and robust method for conflating stream networks to enable transfer of attribute informatio...
متن کاملThe Catchment Area of Jets
The area of a jet is a measure of its susceptibility to radiation, like pileup or underlying event (UE), that on average, in the jet’s neighbourhood, is uniform in rapidity and azimuth. In this article we establish a theoretical grounding for the discussion of jet areas, introducing two main definitions, passive and active areas, which respectively characterise the sensitivity to pointlike or d...
متن کاملAn advanced approach for catchment delineation and water balance modelling within wetlands and floodplains
Water balance of wetlands within lowland floodplains is strongly influenced by the temporally variable spatial extent of the interactions between groundwater and surface water. A robust algorithm will be introduced which makes it possible to delineate the interaction zone between the lowland river and the floodplain. This interaction zone is specified as the “Direct Catchment” which is defined ...
