A Novel Approach to Surface Strain Measurement for Cylindrical Rock Specimens Under Uniaxial Compression Using Distributed Fibre Optic Sensor Technology

This study proposes a novel approach to surface strain measurement for cylindrical rock specimens subjected uniaxial compression using distributed fibre optic sensing technology. The capability and accuracy of this in measuring the full-field distribution specimen have been verified by series compressive strength (UCS) tests on aluminium alloy, sandstone, granite. By analysing experimental results, new also has potential being utilized detect failure locations sequence through localization zone variations estimation development crack opening displacement fracturing characteristics during loading unloading process. Detailed installation procedures are provided assistance use approach. boundary issue measurements is identified, solved extending bonding length fibre.
