چکیده

The greatest lever for advancing climate adaptation and mitigation is the defossilization of energy systems. A key opportunity to replace fossil fuels across sectors use renewable hydrogen. In this context, main political social push currently on neutral hydrogen (H2) production through electrolysis using electricity. Another possibility that has recently gained importance biohydrogen from biogenic residual waste materials. This paper introduces first time a novel concept with net negative emissions. derived combines biotechnological or thermochemical processes carbon dioxide (CO2) capture storage. Various process combinations referred basic approach are defined as HyBECCS (Hydrogen Bioenergy Carbon Capture Storage) described in paper. technical principles resulting advantages systematically compared other Negative Emission Technologies (NET). These include high concentration purity CO2 be captured Direct Air (DAC) Post-combustion (PCC) well emission-free higher possible rate hydrocarbon-based biofuels generated Storage (BECCS) technologies. Further, role carbon-negative future systems analyzed, taking into account societal technological drivers against background mitigation. For purpose, example Federal Republic Germany, ecological impacts estimated, an economic assessment made. hydrogen, saving potential 8.49–17.06 MtCO2,eq/a estimated year 2030 Germany. costs would have below 4.30 € per kg worst-case scenario 10.44 best-case order competitive market forecasts.

Biomass With Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage In a Carbon Constrained World

This paper investigates the potential role of biomass electricity generation with geologic carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS). The sustainable coupling of biomass with CCS technologies would create net negative emissions, which could potentially offset emissions from other sectors where mitigation is more expensive. We find that the successful development and deployment of biomass power p...

Carbon Capture and Storage: Science and Technology Focus for Mitigation of Climate Change

Global warming is attributed to increasing greenhouse gas emissions and mounting concentrations of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere. Since the middle of the 19th century, increasing worldwide anthropogenic activity is said to have given rise to a steady increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is corroborated by direct measurement of CO2 concentrations at Mauna Loa Lab...
