A new fossil species of Procellaria (Aves: Procellariiformes) from the Pliocene of New Zealand

We describe a new Procellaria petrel species from the late Pliocene of Taranaki, New Zealand. The is most similar morphologically to White-Chinned Petrel (P. aequinoctialis), Spectacled conspicillata) and Westland westlandica). Compared with those taxa, has deeper shorter premaxilla, longer coracoid wings, while its legs are size. Today, Zealand centre global diversity genus, four breeding species. This first fossil be described Zealand, attesting reasonably long history this genus in region.
