A Neoclassical Realist Theory of Overbalancing

چکیده

Abstract Why do states overestimate threats and, as a result, mount disproportionately strong and therefore costly balancing responses? To answer this question, we build neoclassical realist theory of overbalancing to argue that unit-level intervening variables help generate counterforce greater than what structurally induced ideal response would call for. We identify the factors conditions steer deviate from realist, optimal policies, pinpoint consequences such suboptimal behavior, provide policymakers with recommendations more suited an interest-driven foreign policy in line power considerations. apply our two distinct case studies: Egypt's intervention Yemen 1960s American overreaction real, but very limited, threat posed by terrorism since 2001.

ESTIMATION OF RADIATION LOSS FROM STELLARATORS USING NEOCLASSICAL TRANSPORT THEORY

The radiation power loss from a magnetically confined plasma in a stellarator has been calculated using neoclassical particle and energy fluxes in an energy balance equation. We could obtain a power loss of about 34% of the total input power by numerical calculation. This fraction of the power loss has been found to be in good agreement with the experimentally measured values of 30-40% for...

Behavioral Growth Theory: A Neoclassical Approach

How do material norms and aspirations on which individual judgments of well-being are based affect the growth dynamics of an economy? Do economies that weigh very highly of these norms grow differently from those economies that values these norms differently? This paper attempts to answer these questions by building a growth model, where individual not only care for its consumption but also eva...

A Realist Social Theory of Information Systems

Rose, Jones and Truex (2005) (RST) call for a re-examination of the relationship between the IT artefact and the organization. This paper responds to that call. It first recognizes that existing approaches such as structuration theory (ST) and actor-network theory (ANT) have difficulties accommodating information systems within organizations and thus create issues in analyzing the relationship ...
