A Multivariate Scaling System Is Essential to Characterize the Tropical Cyclones' Risk

چکیده
The current Tropical Cyclones (TCs) scaling system, Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale (SSHWS), characterizes the hazardousness of these events solely based on wind speed. This is despite fact that TCs are classic examples compound hazards during which multiple hazard drivers wind, storm surge, and intense rainfall interact yield in impacts greater than sum individuals. Studies have shown people's decision to evacuate highly related estimated SSHWS category. Thus, -based classification yields an underestimation so may misguide threatened communities. Here, we propose a new system uses Copulas for categorizing likelihood given set severity rainfall, We use variety data sources obtain timing intensity speed, along track, associated maximum surge 102 made landfall United States' Atlantic Gulf coasts between 1979 2020. Comparing outputs our with official damage reporting costliest history States, show proposed approach significantly improves TC communication can be useful informing makers emergency responders.

Climate Risk Management: the Case of Tropical Cyclones
Global warming has induced an increasing number of deadly tropical cyclones with a continuing trend. Developing high-functional climate risk management tools in forecasting, catastrophe modeling, pricing and hedging is crucial to curtail destruction. We develop a hurricane futures and futures-option pricing model in a doubly-binomial framework with stochastic news arrival intensity, and a corre...
متن کاملThe Dynamics of Tropical Cyclones
The specific objectives of the current effort are: 1. To continue our study of the dynamical processes in tropical cyclones responsible for looping or erratic motion; 2. To continue the development of methods for (a) the introduction of synthetic tropical-cyclone-scale vortices in operational forecast models and (b) ensemble forecasting of tropical cyclones; 3. To continue a sensitivity study o...
متن کاملClouds in Tropical Cyclones
Clouds within the inner regions of tropical cyclones are unlike those anywhere else in the atmosphere. Convective clouds contributing to cyclogenesis have rotational and deep intense updrafts but tend to have relatively weak downdrafts. Within the eyes of mature tropical cyclones, stratus clouds top a boundary layer capped by subsidence. An outward-sloping eyewall cloud is controlled by adjustm...

متن کاملTargeted Observation of Tropical Cyclones
The advance in targeted observations of tropical cyclone movement is reviewed in this article. The targeted observations from DOTSTAR (Dropwindsonde Observations for Typhoon Surveillance near the Taiwan Region) in understanding and improving the tropical cyclone track predictability is highlighted, along with the progress of the field program of THORPEX-PARC in the summer of 2008. The impact of...
