Transferable atom equivalent multicentered multipole expansion method
The transferability of atomic and functional group properties is an implicit concept in chemistry. The work presented here describes the use of Transferable Atom Equivalents (TAE) to represent molecular electrostatic potential fields through the use of integrated atomic multipole moments that are associated with each TAE atom type used in the reconstruction. TAE molecular surface distributions ...
متن کاملOn the multipole expansion of the gravitational field
This paper constructs the multipole expansion (in general relativity) of the gravitational field generated by a slowly-moving isolated source. We introduce some definitions for the source multipole moments, valid to all orders in a post-Newtonian expansion, and depending in a well-defined way on the total stress-energy pseudo-tensor of the material and gravitational fields. Previously obtained ...
متن کاملAn Application of Fast Multipole Method in Analyzing Acoustic Filters
The purpose of this study is to investigate the acoustic performance of mufflers. As a numerical scheme for analyzing an acoustic filter, the boundary element method is more suitable than are domain methods, such as the finite element method, which has to mesh the domain. However, the coefficient matrices established by the boundary element method are full and often non-symmetrical. In order to...
متن کاملTwo-center-multipole expansion method: application to macromolecular systems.
We propose a theoretical method for the calculation of the interaction energy between macromolecular systems at large distances. The method provides a linear scaling of the computing time with the system size and is considered as an alternative to the well-known fast multipole method. Its efficiency, accuracy, and applicability to macromolecular systems is analyzed and discussed in detail.
متن کاملMultipole Expansion for Relativistic Coulomb Excitation
We derive a general expression for the multipole expansion of the electromagnetic interaction in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, which can be employed in higher-order dynamical calculations of Coulomb excitation. The interaction has diagonal as well as off-diagonal multipole components, associated with the intrinsic and relative coordinates of projectile and target. A simple truncation in th...
