A Multi-Band Atmospheric Correction Algorithm for Deriving Water Leaving Reflectances over Turbid Waters from VIIRS Data

چکیده
The current operational multi-band atmospheric correction algorithms implemented by NASA and NOAA for global remote sensing of ocean color from VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) data are mostly based on the 2-band version SeaWiFS (Sea-Viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor) algorithm. These generally use two NIR bands, one centered near 0.75 μm other 0.865 μm, a band ratio method deriving aerosol information. work quite well over open waters. However, water leaving reflectances turbid coastal waters frequently not derived. We describe here spectrum-matching algorithm using shortwave IR (SWIR) bands above 1 retrieving in visible data. SWIR 1.24, 1.61, 2.25 used process to obtain spectral information, which is subsequently extrapolated region derivation bands. present retrieval results four scenes acquired demonstrate that spatial coverages our can be improved significantly comparison with those retrieved If processing, potentially complimentary increase coverages.

Atmospheric correction for NO2 absorption in retrieving water-leaving reflectances from the SeaWiFS and MODIS measurements.
The absorption by atmospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas in the visible has been traditionally neglected in the retrieval of oceanic parameters from satellite measurements. Recent measurements of NO2 from spaceborne sensors show that over the Eastern United States the NO2 column amount often exceeds 1 Dobson Unit (approximately 2.69x10(16) molecules/cm2). Our radiative transfer sensitivity calc...
متن کاملAtmospheric Correction of ENMAP Data Over Land and Water
EnMAP is a hyperspectral imager covering the 400 – 2450 nm region with about 200 spectral channels. The spatial resolution is 30 m and the nadir swath width is 30 km with an off-nadir across-track tilt capability of 30°. The instrument consists of two spectrometer units (VNIR and SWIR). Due to the prism design the channel sampling distance varies from about 5 nm (blue region) to 12 nm (SWIR). E...
متن کاملDeriving inherent optical properties from water color: a multiband quasi-analytical algorithm for optically deep waters.
For open ocean and coastal waters, a multiband quasi-analytical algorithm is developed to retrieve absorption and backscattering coefficients, as well as absorption coefficients of phytoplankton pigments and gelbstoff. This algorithm is based on remote-sensing reflectance models derived from the radiative transfer equation, and values of total absorption and backscattering coefficients are anal...
متن کاملAtmospheric correction of SeaWiFS imagery for turbid coastal and inland waters.
The standard SeaWiFS atmospheric correction algorithm, designed for open ocean water, has been extended for use over turbid coastal and inland waters. Failure of the standard algorithm over turbid waters can be attributed to invalid assumptions of zero water-leaving radiance for the near-infrared bands at 765 and 865 nm. In the present study these assumptions are replaced by the assumptions of ...
متن کاملA Comparison Between Above Water Surface and Subsurface Spectral Reflectances Collected Over Inland Waters
The objective of the research was to undertake a quantitative comparison of spectralreflectance measurements made slightly above the surface of water bodies with the measurements made slightly below the surface. The study is focused on three rivers; two in Georgia, USA and one in Japan. As expected, the differences in reflectance are not constant and vary with the wavelength. The contribution o...
