A moving-boundary model of reactive settling in wastewater treatment. Part 1: Governing equations

چکیده

Reactive settling is the process of sedimentation small solid particles in a fluid with simultaneous reactions between components and liquid phases. This important sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) wastewater treatment plants. In that application are biomass (bacteria; activated sludge) contains substrates (nitrogen, phosphorus) to be removed through biomass. The operation an SBR cycles consecutive fill, react, settle, draw, idle stages modelled by system spatially one-dimensional, nonlinear, strongly degenerate parabolic convection-diffusion-reaction equations. coupled via conditions mass conservation transport equations on half line, whose origin located at moving boundary model effluent pipe. An invariant-region-preserving finite difference scheme used simulate operating denitrification within SBR.

Coarse media filtration--an alternative to settling in wastewater treatment.

In this paper coarse media filtration has been analysed as an alternative to the traditional settling in primary, secondary and tertiary treatment of wastewater. Various filter media configurations were evaluated for enhanced primary filtration. It was found that a dual media configuration based on Kaldnes biofilm media (1 and K2modified) were most suitable when taking both separation efficienc...

Performance Evaluation of Moving Bed Bio Film Reactor in Saline Wastewater Treatment

Background and purpose:Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor is an aerobic attached growth with better biofilm thickness control, lack of plugging and lower head loss. Consequently, this system is greatly used by different wastewater treatment plants. High TDS wastewater produced petrochemical, leather tanning, sea food processing, cannery, pickling and dairy industries. The aim of this study was to evalu...

A moving boundary model of acrosomal elongation

A sperm penetrates an egg by extending a long, actin-filled tube known as the acrosomal process. This simple example of biomotility is one of the most dramatic. In Thyone, a 90 I~m process can extend in less than 10 s. Experiments have shown that actin monomers stored in the base of the sperm are transported to the growing tip of the acrosomai process where they add to the ends of the existing ...

A survey on the performance of moving bed biofilm reactor and rapid sand filter in wastewater treatment

Moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) is a process in which attached growth is utilized for wastewater treatment. This process does not require sludge recycling or backwash. Activated sludge processes can be promoted to an MBBR by adding media to an aeration tank. Rapid sand filter is a physical method for the removal of total suspended solids (TSS) in advanced wastewater treatment. The purpose of ...
