چکیده

This article reads Herman Melville’s White-Jacket as an exploration of shipboard boredom, which oscillates between mechanized labor (tedium) and periods idleness at sea (ennui). The story, revolves around a sailor wearing white jacket among navy-blue uniforms, gives account the perils boredom. My contention is that this (subject) gets so attached to his (object) he becomes unable tell difference himself object, alerts us passage from boredom depression solipsism. Like narrator, fellow sailors find disgusting they do not even want look it, condemning ostracism buttressing naval homogeneity. I conclude logical transition lack interest in (boredom) excitement about encountering Other (curiosity) Moby-Dick.
