A Heuristic Method for Bus Rapid Transit Planning Based on the Maximum Trip Service

Bus rapid transit (BRT) is characterized by higher speed, comfort level, and larger capacity than conventional bus service. Although many cities worldwide have adopted BRT in recent years, there an absence of scientific quantitative approach for network planning. The problem planning existing transportation very complex with constraints road geometrics, regulations, right way, travel demand, vehicle operations, so on. This paper focuses on developing optimization model planning, where integer programing established to identify station locations route layout the objective maximizing number trips served network, subjected including distance between stations, cost construction, etc. detour factor route, which important indicator but widely ignored previous studies, also taken as a constraint. A heuristic method applied generate optimal solutions programming model, followed case study using demand data Luoyang, China. numerical results show that valid can therefore be improve sustainable system development.
