A Healthier Beverage Choice is Based on a Subjective Assessment of Sweet Taste

Despite promising interventions to lower people’s daily sugar consumption, such as health- or taste-focused labels, the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) continues rise. To improve effectiveness existing way people process amounts in grams (g) displayed on seems merit elucidation. For example, do perceive difference amount sugar, and thus subjective sweet taste, between two according Weber’s law? Additionally, is that perceived cause their beverage choice? In order investigate these questions, participants this online experiment first had estimate based then decide whether they would switch a lower-sugar beverage. We found participants’ different estimates followed law. The choice beverage, however, depended how large personally difference. other words, was independent ratio. These results show future rather than indicating total should indicate reduction, for example compared another significant by others.
