چکیده
We give nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF) perspective on thermodynamics formulations for open quantum systems strongly coupled to baths. Scattering approach implying thermodynamic consideration of a super-system (system plus baths) weakly external super-baths is compared with system its analyze both approaches from the NEGF and argue that latter yields possibility formulation consistent dynamical (quantum transport) description.

Nonequilibrium thermodynamics for open systems.
We develop the general equation for the nonequilibrium reversible-irreversible coupling (GENERIC) framework of nonequilibrium thermodynamics for open systems. A clear distinction between bulk and boundary contributions to the Poisson and dissipative brackets employed to generate reversible and irreversible contributions to time evolution from energy and entropy allows us to formulate the bulk e...
متن کاملQuantum thermodynamics: a nonequilibrium Green's function approach.
We establish the foundations of a nonequilibrium theory of quantum thermodynamics for noninteracting open quantum systems strongly coupled to their reservoirs within the framework of the nonequilibrium Green's functions. The energy of the system and its coupling to the reservoirs are controlled by a slow external time-dependent force treated to first order beyond the quasistatic limit. We deriv...
متن کاملNonequilibrium quantum chains under multisite Lindblad baths.
We study a quantum XX chain coupled to two heat reservoirs that act on multiple sites and are kept at different temperatures and chemical potentials. The baths are described by Lindblad dissipators, which are constructed by direct coupling to the fermionic normal modes of the chain. Using a perturbative method, we are able to find analytical formulas for all steady-state properties of the syste...
متن کاملThermodynamics and fluctuation theorems for a strongly coupled open quantum system: an exactly solvable case
We illustrate recent results concerning the validity of the work fluctuation theorem in open quantum systems (Campisi et al 2009 Phys. Rev. Lett. 102 210401), by applying them to a solvable model of an open quantum system. The central role played by the thermodynamic partition function of the open quantum system, a two-level fluctuator with a strong quantum nondemolition coupling to a harmonic ...
متن کاملA review of quantum thermodynamics
In this article, we present a brief and elementary review of quantum thermodynamics and its achievements and challenges. This review includes an introduction to some fundamental concepts such as internal energy, heat, work, entropy, entropy production, thermal equilibrium, second law of quantum thermodynamics, relation between thermodynamics and information theory, as well as a discussion of ho...
