A Generic Internet of Things (IoT) Middleware for Smart City Applications

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one the key components ICT infrastructure smart cities due to its great potential for intelligent management infrastructures and facilities enhanced delivery services in support sustainable cities. Smart typically rely on IoT, where a wide variety devices communicate with each other collaborate across heterogeneous distributed computing environments provide information urban entities urbanites. However, leveraging IoT within software applications raises tremendous challenges, such as data acquisition, device heterogeneity, service management, security privacy, interoperability, scalability, flexibility, processing, visualization. Middleware has been recognized system that can necessary become increasingly important over last few years. This study aims review synthesize relevant literature identify discuss core challenges existing middleware. Furthermore, it augments landscape middleware big achieve required level supporting In doing so, proposes novel city applications, namely Generic City Applications (GMSCA), which brings together many studies further capture invigorate application demand solutions offer. proposed implemented, feasibility assessed by developing three addressing various scenarios. Finally, GMSCA tested conducting load balance performance tests. results prove excellent functioning usability GMSCA.
