A generalized Fourier transform and convolution on time scales

In this paper, we develop some important Fourier analysis tools in the context of time scales. In particular, we present a generalized Fourier transform in this context as well as a critical inversion result. This leads directly to a convolution for signals on two (possibly distinct) time scales as well as several natural classes of time scales which arise in this setting: dilated, closed under...

The Convolution on Time Scales

The main theme in this paper is an initial value problem containing a dynamic version of the transport equation. Via this problem, the delay (or shift) of a function defined on a time scale is introduced, and the delay in turn is used to introduce the convolution of two functions defined on the time scale. In this paper, we give some elementary properties of the delay and of the convolution and...

Discrete Convolution and the Discrete Fourier Transform

Discrete Convolution First of all we need to introduce what we might call the “wraparound” convention. Because the complex numbers wj = e i 2πj N have the property wj±N = wj, which readily extends to wj+mN = wj for any integer m, and since in the discrete Fourier context we represent all N -dimensional vectors as linear combinations of the Fourier vectors Wk whose components are wkj , we make t...

A Note on the Convolution Theorem for the Fourier Transform

In this paper we characterize those bounded linear transformations Tf carrying L1(R1) into the space of bounded continuous functions on R1 , for which the convolution identity T (f ∗ g) = Tf ·Tg holds. It is shown that such a transformation is just the Fourier transform combined with an appropriate change of variable.
