A feminist vision for transformative change to disaster risk reduction policies and practices

Gender has received increased attention in disaster risk reduction (DRR) policies and practices over the past three decades. However, a critical analysis raises number of questions: to gender brought transformative change lives people, especially women sexual minorities all their diversity? To what extent inclusion perspective DRR challenged root causes vulnerability marginalization? Do current sensitive have potential? In this paper, we explore some these questions with particular reference recent Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Act 2017 Nepal which been included. We present findings from research projects, undertaken between 2016 2019 six locations Nepal. These comprised 105 individual interviews, 11 group interviews 3 focus discussions (FGDs) internally displaced women; pregnant newly delivered health community workers; policy makers, political leaders organisations working on DRR. argue that, despite gender, do little challenge existing, unequal social institutional structures; instead, they accommodate status quo. suggest that order for occur, require vision; one allows us see biases problems within imagine our future differently. A feminist vision offers possibility.
