A Disc-Type High Speed Rotary Ultrasonic Motor with Internal Contact Teeth

This paper presents a disc-type ultrasonic piezoelectric motor, which is designed for micro flying vehicles. It provides high output rotation speed under low operating voltage, compared with common devices, by employing “contact teeth” wave transmission structure. The motor (USM) consists of trimorph disc stator, triple internal contact teeth, shaft and two hemispheric hard-wearing rotors. principle the USM based on superposition in-plane B03 vibration mode disc, first longitudinal teeth. An optimization method stator structure parameters was proposed validated numerical modeling. diameter thickness are 20 mm 1 mm, respectively. A prototype weight 2 g made this experimental test. optimal frequency excitation signal preload force 98.5 kHz 0.5 N, minimum voltage tested 7.5 V reached 225 rpm, maximum unloaded rotational 5172 rpm when 30 driving applied. lifting generated measured as 46.1 mN, 2.35 times bigger than its weight.
