Hydrolysis of indoxyl acetate by Campylobacter species.
One hundred and twelve Campylobacter strains comprising 15 species and subspecies were examined for their ability to hydrolyze indoxyl acetate. All strains of C. coli, C. cryaerophila, C. fennelliae, and C. jejuni hydrolyzed the compound, whereas three strains of C. cinaedi were negative and a fourth was weakly positive. Representatives of all other species were negative. Organisms that hydroly...
متن کاملCytochemical electron microscopic localization o esterase activity in Lactobacillus casei.
Enzymes capable of hydrolyzing thiolacetic acid in two strains of Lactobacillus casei were localized by the formation of electron-opaque PbS deposits in vivo in the presence of Pb(NO(3))(2). By electron microscopy, the deposition of PbS appeared primarily at the plasma membrane and at the outer surface of the cell wall.
متن کاملUnsuitability of indoxyl acetate as a substrate for the assay of testicular hyaluronidase.
The most recently published method for the assay of testicular hyaluronidase preparations was based on the premise that the enzyme also exhibited carboxylesterase activity towards indoxyl acetate. Studies on the relative enzyme activities of various hyaluronidase preparations towards hyaluronate and indoxyl acetate, the relative stabilities towards pH, temperature and mechanical shaking and the...
متن کاملSingle incubation double esterase cytochemical reaction using a single coupling reagent.
Most methods used in double esterase cytochemistry for the diagnosis and classification of acute myeloid leukaemias require double incubation and staining, using separate coupling reagents. We evaluated a method by Swirsky on our normal and abnormal blood and bone marrow smears where only a single incubation and the use of a single coupling reagent is required. Its short incubation period and i...
متن کاملA Method for the Quantitative Estimation of Indoxyl Compounds in Urine
In 1913 Jolles (1) introduced alcoholic thymol as a reagent for the detection of indican in urine, and later, based upon its use, developed a calorimetric method (2) for the estimation of indican in both urine and blood. His method for urine consisted in adding to 10 cc. of urine filtrate, after clarification with lead acetate, 1 cc. of 5 per cent alcoholic thymol, and 10 cc. of concentrated hy...
