A crystal plasticity investigation of grain size-texture interaction in magnesium alloys

چکیده

This work investigates the microstructure-property linkages in magnesium (Mg) with an emphasis on understanding interaction effects between grain size, texture, and loading orientation. A single crystal plasticity framework endowed experimentally informed micro Hall-Petch type relations for activation thresholds slip twinning is adopted to resolve polycrystalline microstructures over a broad texture-grain size space. The macroscopic trends from simulations corroborate experiments. synergistic of microstructural engineering micromechanical characteristics are mapped, which reveal their role emergent behaviors. predict reduced extension refinement even though coefficient smaller than that non-basal modes. While textural weakening generally reduce net plastic anisotropy tension-compression asymmetry, degree these behaviors tempered depends results offer preliminary insight into roles texture may play damage behavior engineered Mg microstructures.

Characterization and Investigation of Grain Selection in Spiral Grain Selectors during Casting Single-Crystal Turbine Blades

Manufactured single crystal components using Ni-base super alloys are routinely used in the hot sections of aero engines and industrial gas turbines due to their outstanding high temperature strength, toughness and resistance to degradation in corrosive and oxidative environments. To control the quality of the single crystal turbine blades, particular attention has been paid to grain selection,...

Influence of thermomechanical processing on the grain size, texture and mechanical properties of Mg-Al alloys

The work carried out by the authors over the last decade on the processing, microstructural characterization and the mechanical behaviour of Mg alloys is reviewed. In particular, the potential for grain refinement and for the development of specific textures of large strain hot rolling (LSHR), equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is discussed. The recrystall...
