A Conceptual Approach towards Improving Monitoring of Living Conditions for Populations Affected by Desertification, Land Degradation, and Drought

Addressing the global challenges of desertification, land degradation, and drought (DLDD), their impacts on achieving sustainable development goals for coupled human-environmental systems is a key component 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development. In particular, Development Goal (SDG) 15.3 aims to, “by 2030, combat restore degraded soil, including affected by floods, strive to achieve degradation-neutral world”. this challenge essential improving livelihoods those most DLDD safeguarding against extreme effects climate change. This paper introduces conceptual framework improved monitoring in context United Nations Convention Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Strategic Objective 2 (SO2) its expected impacts: food security adequate access water people areas are improved; diversified; local people, especially women youth, empowered participate decision-making processes combating DLDD; migration forced desertification degradation substantially reduced. While it critical develop methods tools assessing DLDD, work needed first provide roadmap human dimensions vulnerability relation when attempting create globally standardized approach.
