There were edematous cornea, erosion, epithelial defect. Gram staining, potassium hydroxide (KOH) smear, bacterial culture, antibiotic sensitivity test was performed started 1.5% levofloxacin as antibiotics. culture revealed growth <i>K. Kocuria kristinae infection associated with acute cholecystitis
BACKGROUND Kocuria, previously classified into the genus of Micrococcus, is commonly found on human skin. Two species, K. rosea and K. kristinae, are etiologically associated with catheter-related bacteremia. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the first case of K. kristinae infection associated with acute cholecystitis. The microorganism was isolated from the bile of a 56-year old Chinese man who ...
متن کاملIs Kocuria kristinae an upcoming pathogen?
Kocuria kristinae, previously called Micrococcus Kristinae was first described in 1974[1]. The organism is found widespread in nature, frequently as normal skin flora on humans and other mammals. It is usually non-pathogenic. There are very few documented cases with infections caused by Kocuria kristinae . Of these a majority occur in patients with indwelling devices, underlying diseases and su...
متن کاملKocuria kristinae: a true pathogen in pediatric patients.
BACKGROUND Kocuria kristinae is a Gram-positive microorganism, which has rarely been reported as a pathogen that causes infection in humans. Recently, a few studies had concluded that this pathogen can indeed cause infection in immunocompromised hosts. However, the number of reports on K. kristinae infection in pediatric patients is still relatively limited. METHODS Clinical data on pediatric...
متن کاملCentral Venous Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infection with Kocuria kristinae in a Patient with Propionic Acidemia
Kocuria kristinae is a catalase-positive, coagulase-negative, Gram-positive coccus found in the environment and in normal skin and mucosa in humans; however, it is rarely isolated from clinical specimens and is considered a nonpathogenic bacterium. We describe a case of catheter-related bacteremia due to K. kristinae in a young adult with propionic acidemia undergoing periodic hemodialysis. The...
متن کاملVitek 2 automated identification system and Kocuria kristinae.
We have read with great interest the article by Ben-Ami et al. (2) about the misidentification of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNoS) as Kocuria spp. by the Vitek 2 system (bioMérieux, Marcy l’Etoile, France). They warned that a clinical specimen growing Kocuria should raise suspicion of CNoS infection. In their study, they made use of the Vitek 2 ID GPC gram-positive identification card. I...
