A biomarker discovery framework for childhood anxiety

چکیده
Introduction Anxiety is the most common manifestation of psychopathology in youth, negatively affecting academic, social, and adaptive functioning increasing risk for mental health problems into adulthood. disorders are diagnosed only after clinical symptoms emerge, potentially missing opportunities to intervene during critical early prodromal periods. In this study, we used a new empirical approach extracting nonlinear features electroencephalogram (EEG), with goal discovering differences brain electrodynamics that distinguish children anxiety from healthy children. Additionally, examined whether could externalizing anxiety. Methods We novel supervised tensor factorization method extract latent factors repeated multifrequency EEG measures longitudinal sample assessed infancy at ages 3, 5, 7 years age. first validity by showing calendar age highly correlated complexity ( r = 0.77). then computed separately distinguishing controls using 5-fold cross validation scheme similarly controls. Results found derived recordings were required an disorder controls; infancy, 3 years, or 5 alone insufficient. However, two (5, years) three (3, gave much better results than year alone. Externalizing be detected 3- data, also giving any single snapshot. Further, sex assigned birth was important covariate improved accuracy both groups, birthweight as modestly disorders. Recordings infant did not contribute classification either Conclusion This study suggests extracted childhood promising candidate biomarkers if chosen appropriate ages.

Metabolomics for Biomarker Discovery
Metabolomics is the study of the small molecule biochemistry of an organism. The goal is to understand the metabolic state of a subject by extracting, identifying and quantifying all of the small molecule compounds (for example, metabolites) in a biological sample. Since it is based upon biochemistry and provides a measurement of the biological status of an organism, metabolomics provides a pow...
متن کاملSILAC for biomarker discovery.
SILAC has been employed in MS-based proteomics for nearly a decade. This method is based on cells in culture metabolically incorporating isotope-coded essential amino acids and allows the quantification of global protein populations to identify characteristic changes. Variations of this technique developed over the years allow the application of SILAC not only to cell culture derived samples bu...
متن کاملProteomics-on-a-chip for Biomarker Discovery
In proteomics research still two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2D-GE) is currently used for biomarker discovery. We applied free flow electrophoresis (FFE) separation technology combined with biomolecular interaction sensing using Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) imaging in an integrated proteomics-on-a-chip device as a proof of concept for biomarker discovery.
متن کاملProteomics as a Tool for Biomarker Discovery
Novel technologies are now being advanced for the purpose of identification and validation of new disease biomarkers. A reliable and useful clinical biomarker must a) come from a readily attainable source, such as blood or urine, b) have sufficient sensitivity to correctly identify affected individuals, c) have sufficient specificity to avoid incorrect labeling of unaffected persons, and d) res...
متن کاملA Functional Proteomic Method for Biomarker Discovery
The sequencing of the human genome holds out the hope for personalized medicine, but it is clear that analysis of DNA or RNA content alone is not sufficient to understand most disease processes. Proteomic strategies that allow unbiased identification of proteins and their post-transcriptional and -translation modifications are an essential complement to genomic strategies. However, the enormity...
