A 500-year annual runoff reconstruction for 14 selected European catchments

Abstract. Since the beginning of this century, Europe has been experiencing severe drought events (2003, 2007, 2010, 2018 and 2019) which have had adverse impacts on various sectors, such as agriculture, forestry, water management, health ecosystems. During last few decades, projections impact climate change hydroclimatic extremes often used for quantification changes in characteristics these extremes. Recently, research interest extended to include reconstructions conditions provide historical context present future While there are available temperature, precipitation, indicators, or 20th century runoff Europe, multi-century annual still lacking. In study, we reconstructed precipitation temperature data, Palmer Drought Severity Index observed across 14 European catchments order develop period 1500–2000 using two data-driven one conceptual lumped hydrological model. The comparison data shown a good match between their characteristics, particularly deficit volumes.
