905 Improving Confidence in Plastering Across Specialties: A Hands-on Approach

Abstract Aim Plaster of Paris casts form one the most basic yet effective treatment for acute orthopaedic fractures and often a permanent methodology. Patients with present at all times day to services require prompt stabilisation. Casts however do some risks including compartment syndrome skin ulcerations. Our quality improvement aimed improve confidence in healthcare providers across different specialities managing plasters. Method Focussed workshops conducted by expert plaster technicians under supervision an experienced consultant were upper lower limb injuries. Additional encompassing safety other trauma splints delivered. Candidates ranged grades included nurse practitioners qualified doctors. Confidence scores (out five) measured on Likert scale obtained from 25 participants. Results Knowledge about plasters type matched injury improved mean score 3 4.5. applying 4.7 3.25 4.8. conditions safe removal 2 4.6. 1.5 4.3. Conclusions project patients emphasis splints. It has been formally adopted regular basis as teaching program.
