825 Imaging in Suspected Gallstone Patients: Are We Optimising Resources?

Abstract Aim Suspected biliary pathology necessitates imaging to assess for gallstones. Ultrasound is gold-standard but often limited by bowel gas/body habitus. MRCP has become popular due superior ability detect CBD stones. CT used with concerns of a wider differential diagnosis. This study aimed explore the diagnostic journey suspected gallstone patients, and whether increased furthered patients’ management. Method retrospective data collection 2 months' referrals, October 1st-November 30th 2022 (inclusive), QEQM General Surgery team yielded 76 which PACS was reviewed collate performed. Results 28 patients received 1 scan type (37%) 41 types (54%). 7 all 3 CT, US (9%); 100% these gained new information ranging from ductal stones/dilated CBD, choledochal cysts. 63%with 2+ obtained information. An additional 15% had absence stones confirmed on MRCP, where couldn't comment. 16 (33%) an US/CT that could not confidently comment dilation. Conclusions Most two or more scans, CT/US followed US/MRCP respectively, typically expanded clinical picture. Multi-modal certainly proves useful, eradicating individual limitations each as shown in this study. first-line would prevent multiple scans one patient much availability. therefore continues have significant value detecting practice.
