581 Documentation of Peripheral Sensory Function Assessment in Hand Trauma at a Regional Referral Unit

Abstract Aim This audit aimed to assess the quality of documentation sensory function assessment in hand trauma patients treated at a regional referral unit. The was based on British Orthopaedic Association Standards for Trauma and Orthopaedics (BOAST) “Peripheral Nerve Injury” national guideline, last updated December 2021. Method scope included all referrals received between 1st 10th March 2022. Initial case screening excluded missed appointments, telephone consultations, missing sheets reviews old injuries. Following that, with diagnoses pulp injury, amputation, closed central slip mallet phalanx infection, injuries, removal metalwork, which were not relevant audited excluded. All remaining records analysed any description sensation level using 1-10 scale. Additionally, cases volar lacerations checked two-point discrimination (2PD). Results search yielded 97 patient records. initial screening, 10 56 out 87 had audit. 24 classified as 73% contained peripheral (41/56). documented 23% (13/56). 17% injury 2PD examination (4/24). Conclusions Documentation trauma, especially lacerations, requires improvement. One possibility improve adoption evaluation would be an introduction cheap widely available device.
