Method A comprehensive literature review was conducted over 20-year period using Pudmed and EMBASE search terms “local”, “regional”, “functional”, “total reconstruction”. Squamous cell carcinoma (93.1%) most common cause reconstruction. Of all flaps, 67% local 8.5% regional flaps 24.6% free flaps. Most used wide variety objective subjective outcome measures whereas only 4 validated scoring systems to determine functional aesthetic outcomes. Conclusions Despite myriad described, we are currently unable superior technique. Given ultimate goal is restore form function, recommend use standardised recording measure allow comparison identification best technique optimise patients'
