483 Complete Sciatic Nerve Transection from A Closed Femoral Fracture: A Case Report

Abstract Introduction Complete transection of the sciatic nerve following a closed femoral fracture is exceedingly uncommon. Delayed diagnosis may result due to this unrecognised injury pattern. Case Description: An 18-year-old male motorcyclist was referred significantly displaced closed, fracture. The patient sedated at scene and transferred theatre for definitive fixation, where an open reduction performed via anterior approach. Symptoms paresthesia weakness were reported immediately postoperatively, formal neurological examination prompted emergency MRI. On basis, plastics underwent surgical exploration, complete identified just proximal bifurcation into common peroneal tibial nerve. A gap five centimetres requiring reconstruction with grouped fascicular sural grafts. Discussion: devastating that compromises function posterior compartment thigh all motor below knee. To our knowledge, reports secondary shaft are extremely rare in pertinent literature, only two other cases date.
