3D MHD models of the centrifugal magnetosphere from a massive star with an oblique dipole field

ABSTRACT We present results from new self-consistent 3D magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations of the magnetospheres massive stars with a dipole magnetic axis that has non-zero obliquity angle (?) to star’s rotation axis. As an initial direct application, we compare global structure co-rotating discs for nearly aligned (? = 5°) versus half-oblique 45°) models, both moderately rapid (?0.5 critical). find accumulation surfaces broadly resemble forms predicted by analytical rigidly rotating magnetosphere model, but mass buildup near critical level centrifugal breakout against confinement distorts field imposed dipole. This leads associated warping surface towards rotational equator, highest density concentrated in wings centred on intersection between and equators. These MHD models can be used synthesize modulation photometric absorption H ? emission comparison observations.
