369 Utility of price-estimator tools within dermatology

In 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced a requirement hospitals to publish prices online allowing patients price shop. This study examined utility of CMS-mandated estimators dermatology procedures. Chargemasters and price-estimator tools from five largest in each state (n=250) were reviewed. They considered accessible if there publicly available, written English, searchable. Each was searched presence dermatologic procedures their estimated price. Of 250 hospitals, 89.6% chargemasters 92.8% accessible. estimators, 98.7% 63.8% contained pricing data on procedures, respectively. 36.2% without price-estimators, 100% had present chargemasters. Formatting price-estimators included searchable databases (93.1%, n =216) spreadsheets (6.9%, = 16). The most common listed debridement subcutaneous tissue (CPT 11042) with median $1,135.50 (IQR $577-$3533.67; n= 80), followed by simple incision drainage skin abscess 10060) $956.00 $465.50-$6506.00, n=79), single punch biopsy 11104) $506.06 $356.50-$922.08, n=29). Although estimator are widely available patient-friendly formats, they not optimized shoppable services. Dermatologic nearly all chargemasters, indicating that these services offered yet over third omitted tool. Given wide range prices, adding more patient friendly may increase improve cost savings patients.
