2D PET Image Reconstruction Using Robust L1 Estimation of the Gaussian Mixture Model

An image or volume of interest in positron emission tomography (PET) is reconstructed from gamma rays emitted a radioactive tracer, which are then captured and used to estimate the tracer’s location. The by estimating pixel voxel values on grid determined scanner. Such an approach usually associated with limited resolution reconstruction, high computational complexity due slow convergence noisy results. This paper presents novel method PET reconstruction using underlying assumption that originals can be modelled Gaussian mixture models. Parameters estimated one-dimensional projections iterative algorithm resembling expectation-maximization algorithm. complex problem resolved utilizes ${L_{1}}$ minimization.
