چکیده

An important pathway for CO2 sinking in the ocean is via “biological pump”, driven by production of particulate organic carbon (POC) surface and its subsequent export to deeper vertical settling. Here we examine fluxes POC continental slope northern Gulf Mexico utilizing short-lived radionuclide pair 210Po - 210Pb. The total activities 210Pb ranged from 2.5 ± 0.35 16.52 1.98 dpm 100 L-1 3.47 0.45 24.49 3.42 respectively with exception higher (87.36 11.38 L-1) (32.25 4.35 near bottom water hypersaline anoxic Orca basin. Temporal patterns of Deepwater Horizon impacts on the benthic infauna of the northern Gulf of Mexico continental slope

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill occurred in spring and summer 2010 in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Research cruises in 2010 (approximately 2-3 months after the well had been capped), 2011, and 2014 were conducted to determine the initial and subsequent effects of the oil spill on deep-sea soft-bottom infauna. A total of 34 stations were sampled from two zones: 20 stations in the "impact" zone v...

The carbon dioxide system on the Mississippi River‐dominated continental shelf in the northern Gulf of Mexico: 1. Distribution and air‐sea CO2 flux

River-dominated continental shelf environments are active sites of air-sea CO2 exchange. We conducted 13 cruises in the northern Gulf of Mexico, a region strongly influenced by fresh water and nutrients delivered from the Mississippi and Atchafalaya River system. The sea surface partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) was measured, and the air-sea CO2 flux was calculated. Results show that CO...

Germanium–silicon fractionation in a river-influenced continental margin: The Northern Gulf of Mexico

In this study we have sampled the water column and sediments of the Gulf of Mexico to investigate the effects of high riverine terrigenous load and sediment redox conditions on the cycling of Ge and Si. Water column Ge/Si ratios across the Gulf of Mexico continental shelf range from 1.9 to 25 lmol/mol, which is elevated compared to the global ocean value of 0.7 lmol/mol. The Ge enrichment in th...
