17β-Estradiol Can Induce Sex Reversal in Brown Trout

چکیده
Hormones have been used to change phenotypic sex in many fish species. However, information specific changing brown trout Salmo trutta is lacking. This study compared the effectiveness of two different 17β-estradiol (estradiol) concentrations (20 mg/kg and 30 mg/kg) fed for 60 days, beginning at initial feeding. At 456 days post-initial feeding, 20 treatment groups were 84% 86% female, respectively. These values significantly higher than 47% females observed control group which did not receive dietary estradiol. end 60-day estradiol period, weight gain, percent feed conversion ratio all lower tanks receiving tanks. Individual also weighed less shorter estradiol-coated feed. Mortality ranged from 1.0 2.4% among treatments was different. After 105 treatments. individual longer heavier treatment, similar other first document successful reversal using While this lead complete feminization, 85-to-15% female-to-male indicates feminization genetic males. The levels are suitable step potentially develop a YY male broodstock invasive populations.

Identification of conserved hepatic transcriptomic responses to 17β-estradiol using high-throughput sequencing in brown trout
Estrogenic chemicals are major contaminants of surface waters and can threaten the sustainability of natural fish populations. Characterization of the global molecular mechanisms of toxicity of environmental contaminants has been conducted primarily in model species rather than species with limited existing transcriptomic or genomic sequence information. We aimed to investigate the global mecha...
متن کاملTemperature-induced sex reversal is not responsible for sex-ratio distortions in grayling Thymallus thymallus or brown trout Salmo trutta.
On the basis of the experiments carried out over various years, it was concluded that (1) grayling Thymallus thymallus and brown trout Salmo trutta are resistant to temperature-induced sex reversal at ecologically relevant temperatures, (2) environmental sex reversal is unlikely to cause the persistent sex ratio distortion observed in at least one of the study populations and (3) sex-specific t...

متن کاملImmunomodulation by 17β-Estradiol in bivalve hemocytes
In mammals, estrogens have both doseand cell-type specific effects on immune cells and may act as pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory stimuli depending on the setting. Evidence has been provided that in the bivalve mollusc Mytilus the natural estrogen 17β-estradiol (E2) can affect neuro-immune functions. In this work the immunomodulatory role of E2 in Mytilus hemocytes, the cells responsible...
متن کاملHormonal sex reversal of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) by ethynylestradiol-17α (EE2)
Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) females grow larger and mature later than males, making all-female stocks economically advantageous. The objective of this research was to develop methods for the production of monosex populations of trout through the use of sex steroids. The synthetic estrogen ethynylestradiol-17α (EE2) was administered in single period-immersion treatment of 400 µg/l for 1,...
