15% reduction in AC loss of a 3-phase 1 MVA HTS transformer by exploiting asymmetric conductor critical current

Abstract An asymmetric dependence of the critical current on direction an applied magnetic field in HTS coated conductors has a non-trivial influence AC loss coil windings. We report modelled real conductor asymmetry characteristics 1 MVA transformer design previously demonstrated by Robinson Research Institute as well stand-alone having same geometrical and electrical parameters low voltage (high current) winding transformer. compare two commercial with distinctive differences their show maximum variation 15% 29% calculated winding, respectively, when orientation is varied top bottom halves simulation giving consideration to before could lead substantial reduction even using amount design.
