Primary malignant pericardial mesothelioma - a rare cause of pericardial effusion and consecutive constrictive pericarditis: a case report
INTRODUCTION Primary malignant pericardial mesothelioma is a very rare pericardial tumor of unknown etiology. CASE PRESENTATION A 61-year-old Caucasian woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of exertional dyspnea due to a large pericardial effusion. Intrapericardial fluid volume declined after repeated pericardiocentesis, but the patient progressively developed a hemodynamically relev...
متن کامل[A rare cause of pericardial disease].
Among cardiovascular diseases, pericardial disease has specific characteristics. Its etiology, diagnosis and medical management are not as well understood as in coronary and valvular heart disease. In most cases, its cause is benign, although the proportion decreases with more severe clinical presentation. The authors present the case of a 35-year-old man with no relevant past medical history, ...
متن کاملPericardial cyst: a rare cause of pericardial effusion.
Pericardial cysts occur rarely, with an incidence rate of 1 per 100,000. They are usually detected by chance and clinically silent in most cases. Pericardial cysts are the most common benign tumours of the pericardium and presents by the third or fourth decade of life, and equally common in males and females. In principle, they only require follow-up, however, an enlarging or symptomatic cyst r...
متن کاملA Case of Malignant Pericardial Mesothelioma With Constrictive Pericarditis Physiology Misdiagnosed as Pericardial Metastatic Cancer
Malignant pericardial mesothelioma is a rare and progressive cardiac tumor. There is no established standard treatment and the prognosis is poor. Most patients were retrospectively diagnosed from surgery or autopsy due to absence of specific clinical manifestation. Most patients with pericardial mesothelioma have demonstrated constrictive physiology on echocardiography or cardiac catheterizatio...
متن کاملSalmonella: a rare cause of subacute effusive-constrictive pericarditis.
A 36 year old woman had emergency pericardectomy because of subacute effusive-constrictive pericarditis. The pericardial fluid and tissue culture showed that this was caused by infection with Salmonella enteritidis. Cardiac involvement with salmonella does not usually present in such an aggressive manner and it has not previously been reported to cause this rare type of cardiac constriction.
