Depressed specific cell-mediated immunity to Herpes simplex virus type 1 in patients with recurrent herpes labialis.
Cell-mediated immunity to herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was assessed by a lymphocytotoxicity 51-Cr-release microassay procedure, using the MA-160 human prostatic adenoma cell line chronically infected with HSV-1 and its parent cell line as control. The specific immune release mean plus or minus standard deviation for nine asymptomatic patients with recurrent HSV-1 infections was 13.7 plus...
متن کاملSurveillance for antiviral-agent-resistant herpes simplex virus in the general population with recurrent herpes labialis.
In a general population survey in the United States, the prevalence of antiviral-agent-resistant herpes simplex virus was very low among more than 1,000 isolates from individuals with an episode of recurrent herpes labialis not treated with topical antiviral agents. Two isolates had borderline resistance to acyclovir (0.2%), and all were susceptible to penciclovir.
متن کاملRecurrent herpes simplex labialis: selected therapeutic options.
Recurrent infection with herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1), called herpes simplex labialis (HSL), is a global problem for patients with normal immune systems. An effective management program is needed for those with frequent HSL recurrences, particularly if associated morbidity and life-threatening factors are present and the patient's immune status is altered. Over the past 20 years, a variety of ...
متن کاملIncreased cell-mediated immune responses in patients with recurrent herpes simplex virus type 2 meningitis.
The clinical picture of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection includes genital blisters and less frequently meningitis, and some individuals suffer from recurrent episodes of these manifestations. We hypothesized that adaptive and/or innate immune functional deficiencies may be a major contributing factor in susceptibility to recurrent HSV-2 meningitis. Ten patients with recurrent HSV-2...
متن کاملHerpes Simplex Virus and Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis
Background and objective: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare histiocytic proliferative disorder of unknown etiology and mainly affects young children. The histological feature is granuloma-like proliferation of langerhans-type dendritic cells. Although the possible role of viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV, Human Herpes virus -4</...
