0784 Sleep Disruptors on the Inpatient Pediatric Unit

Abstract Introduction High quality sleep is crucial to health and development in children. Compared healthy children, hospitalized children have a higher chance of experiencing disrupted poor-quality sleep, which may thereby impede their recovery. There lack research around disruptors outside the ICU setting. Methods This IRB approved, prospective, survey-based study was completed 2022 included ages 8-17 years who were □3 days on inpatient (non-ICU) units at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. The comprised four surveys: Epworth Sleepiness Scale for Children Adolescents (ESS-CHAD, scores= more sleepiness), Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scales based age (ASHS CSHS, Higher Scores= Better Hygiene), Consensus Diary, Disruptors Questionnaire (NSDQ) evaluated contribution various factors disruption. EMR reviewed demographic clinical information. Descriptive comparative statistics performed. Results Study participants (n=45) 40% male, 57.8% white, with mean 13.4 years. number nighttime awakenings 2 (range=0-7). average total time 8.2 hours (range=5-12). On administered surveys, scored: ESS-CHAD (M=8.6 SD=4.3), ASHS (M=2.9 SD=.8), CSHS (M=3.3 SD=.6). 54% patients reported feeling like they needed sleep.
