چکیده
Abstract Introduction Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is defined as a noticeable decline in cognitive abilities that doesn't interfere with daily activities; MCI may be precursor of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Elevated risk has been shown subjects obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) clinic population insomnia general population. OSA Insomnia both have high prevalence among members the World Trade Center Health Program General Responders’ Cohort (WTCHP GRC). Previous research indicated they had but did not examine sleep. We examined association between and/or WTCHP GRC. Methods assessed by Montreal Assessment (MoCA) English (n=115) Spanish (n=27). MoCA < 26 defines MCI. AHI4>=5 or RDI>=15 events/hr, was home test in-lab NPSG. A score>7 on Severity Index (ISI) insomnia. Education categorized > bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree; were Latino not. Variables analyzed using linear correlation, t-tests chi-square tests appropriate. Results The study consisted 142 (80%M/20%F, age 58±8 years, BMI=29.7±5 kg/m2., Non-Latino/White=57%, Latino/any race=35%, BA/BS=65%). 65.5% (mean AHI4=10.8±12.5/hr RDI=21.42±16/hr). 48% (ISI=8.8 + 6). (n=68) classified No correlation observed severity (r=0.1,p=0.24) ISI (r=-0.1,p=0.1). Subjects without higher (MCI_OSA=21.5% vs MCI_noOSA=37%, p=0.018). Lower educational level, race/ethnicity, language (Spanish/English) (p< 0.001) associated Conclusion In this heterogenous cohort, we showed an unexpected lower subjects. As others, highly impacted education. This suggests our findings influenced differences scoring cutoffs Hispanic populations. To understand relationship disorders WTC population, future studies should re-assess used use tools to assess less dependent ethnicity level. Support (if any) NIOSH/CDC U01OH011481, K24HL109156

BACKGROUND Following the World Trade Center disaster, a large number of individuals involved in rescue and recovery activity were exposed to significant amounts of dust, and reported symptoms of chronic nasal and sinus inflammation. An unusually high prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has also been observed in this World Trade Center Responder population. This project aims to examine t...
