0.1–10 MeV Neutron Soft Error Rate in Accelerator and Atmospheric Environments

Neutrons with energies between 0.1 and 10 MeV can significantly impact the soft error rate (SER) in SRAMs manufactured scaled technologies, respect to high-energy neutrons. Their contribution is evaluated accelerator, ground-level, avionic (12 km of altitude) environments. Experimental cross sections were measured monoenergetic neutrons from 144 keV 17 MeV, results benchmarked Monte Carlo simulations. It was found that even induce upsets due elastic scattering. Moreover, 0.1-10 energy range more than 60% overall upset accelerator applications, while their exceed 18% avionics. The SER below 3 whose has always been considered negligible, be up 44% total These have strong radiation hardness assurance (RHA) implications for those environments high fluxes range.
