abstract this paper discusses several commonly used models for strategic marketing¹ including market environmental analysis methods (i.e. swot and pest analysis) and strategic marketing tools and techniques (i.e. boston matrix and shell directional policy matrix)and shows how these models may help a firm to achieve its strategic goals. at first, the main reason for doing this research is described and the question "why this research is important?" would be answered. then as the background of the research, the different strategic marketing models are discussed and dpm² model for our case would be described in detail. the market attractiveness³ and business strength4, which are the two main characteristics in dpm model for our case in steel industry5 in iran, are analyzed and then dpm model is plotted. with respect to this plot, the position of sbu is described and the appropriate strategy is recommended.
