ii abstract the legend of human being’s refulgence was distorted completely in the age of modernity. this new age, had some drastic negative effects, besides its positive qualities. one significant negative effect of it was the emergence of neurosis in human beings. aldous huxley’s brave new world was one of the novels of the 02 th century that contained the prophecy of criticizing modern period. a remarkable point in this novel was the existence of neurosis in its key characters. in the field of psychoanalysis, theoreticians such as jacques lacan and slavoj ?i?ek had carried out some studies on identity and subjectivity. the present work tries to read brave new world psychoanalytically in the light of the views of the mentioned theoreticians. one important concept in psychoanalysis is “subjectivization” which has had a significant impact on the psychoanalysis as explained by lacan and ?i?ek. in this research, the researcher dealt with another notion which was remarkable among notions of psychoanalysis: the notion of the “other”. the researcher of this thesis endeavors to show and substantiate the impact of the “other” in both forming the personalities of people and the emergence of neurosis in john the savage, the hero of the most significant novel written by huxley. the writer of this thesis establishes a platform for studying ?i?ek. therefore, the lacanian concepts play an introductory role for the readers to get familiar with ?i?ek. in ?i?ek’s ontology, the “other” is changed to the “big other”, in the era which he called “post-human” era. john, the hero of brave new world was reared by the norms of savagery, thus, keeping up with the new trends of the civilization was cumbersome for him; finally, this maladjustment led to neurosis, riot, seclusion, and at last suicide of the hero of the novel. psychoanalytically speaking, the researcher discussed the events which led to the ruin of john and also to the exile of helmholtz and bernard. key terms: lacan, huxley, ?i?ek, neurosis, the other, subjectivity, brave new world.
