the research questions were as follows: 1. is there any relationship between the students concious awareness of the form and implications of the conjuncations and their improvement in using appropriate conjunctions? 2. does students knowledge of the from and the implications of the conjunctions help them to produce more coherent writings. 3. does a comparison between english conjunctions and their persian equivalents help students to learn conjunctions more easily? the following null hypothesis was postulated. ho: explanation, exercises and awareness of the form and implications of conjunctions in the source and the target language have no significant effect on the improvement of iranian students in using appropriate conjunctions in their writing. in fact this experimental study was a comparison between traditional approach and more modern approaches proposed by recent methodologists. the subjects (n60) students from damghan university were divided into two equal groups. the experimental group recieved the treatment and the control group was taught by traditional method. the result of the statistical ptocedure proved that explanation, exercises and awareness of the form and implications of conjunctions in the source and the target language have a significant role on the improvement of students in using appropriate conjunctions in their writings. it proved that this approach will lead to more coherent writings. the null hypothesis was rejected at the level of 0.05, t2.64.
