abstract this study examines the effect of teaching lexical inferencing strategies on developing reading comprehension skill of iranian advanced efl learners. participants were female students of meraj and shokouh institudes of garmsar a quasi-experimental design using two intact advanced classes of efl students at meraj and shokouh institutes. as the first step, a general toefl proficiency test was administered to the two classes comprising (63= subject) participants to be sure of the homogeneity of the students. afterward, both groups (54students) have a pre-test consisting of a multiple choice test of vocabulary, and reading comprehension test which were designed from toefl reading proficiency test (version 2005). consequently, the treatment started for experimental group through which, they practice three strategies (identifying, evaluating, and monitoring). selected for this study where as in the control group the same material was taught by, using conventional methods of teaching unknown words that are explained or translated by the teacher before reading. via 10 sessions of treatment, participants read the passages containing 8 or 10 unknown words and attempt to derive the meaning of unknown words from context. when the treatment phase was over, the participants in both groups participated in the post test (which was similar to the pre test, contained both vocabulary and reading comprehension tests). the finding obtained from the statistical results of pre and post test pointed to the significant difference between the groups. hence, the instructional procedure contributed to the improvement of efl advanced students reading comprehension in this study.

عنوان پایان نامه تاثیر آموزش معنا محور بر مهارت خواندن زبان آموزان سطح متوسط ایرانی است. طی سالهای اخیر با ارائه نظریات جدید آموزشی تمرکز از فرم به معنا تغییر کرده است. همراه با نظریه استفان کرشن مبنی بر ارائه مطالب قابل فهم برای آموزش زبان روشهای جدیدی همچون content-based instruction و task based instruction پا به عرصه وجود گذاشتند که همه جزو روشهای communicative می باشند. در این تحقیق با انتخاب 60 نفر از زبان آموزان سطح متوسط از بین کلیه زبان آموزان سطح متوسط دو آموزشگاه به کمک یک آزمون مهارت و تقسیم آنها به گروههای آزمایشی و کنترل و تدریس به دو روش مختلف سنتی و جدید و برگزاری آزمون های pre test و posttest و مقایسه واریانسها تاثیر یا عدم تاثیر روش یاد شده نسبت به روشهای متداول مورد بررسی قرار می گیرد. با انجام این تحقیق امید است به روش جدید و موثرتی جهت آموزش مهارت خواندن که در کشور ما مهارت مهمی تلقی میشود دست یابیم.

previous studies have aimed at testing a hypothesis but the present study is data-first research in which researcher tries to form a theory from data rather than the use of data to test a hypothesis. this study aims at exploring teachers perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of the current syllabus for college preparatory course. eight experienced teachers were selected to collect data during open ended interviews. using grounded theory, researcher analyzed the data. analysis of teachers’ perspective yielded many categories that uncover the strengths and weaknesses of this textbook. the findings will help syllabus designers, test-developers, policymakers and teachers come up with more informed decisions concerning language pedagogy.
