background. one of the treatment methods for facial fractures is close reduction technique, but treatment with intermaxillary fixation (imf) interferes with normal nutrition, and malnutrition can affect patient’s recovery. anthropometric measurements such as skinfold thickness and body mass index (bmi) are universal indexes for diagnosing malnutrition. so in this study we pointed out how treatm...

BACKGROUND Changes in single skinfold thickness and body fat have been investigated in ultraswimmers and ultracyclists, but not in ultrarunners. The present study investigated the changes in single skinfold thickness during a 100 km ultramarathon. METHODS Firstly, we investigated associations between prerace preparation and prerace body composition and, secondly, changes in single skinfold th...

Comparison of skinfold thicknesses measured in childhood and again 15 years later in 318 male and 303 female subjects disclosed only a moderate relation between the two measurements. Where adult fatness could be predicted from combinations of skinfold thicknesses in childhood the accuracy in 95% of cases lay at the mean between +/- 8% and +/- 18% according to age and sex.

A measurement of the thickness of subcutaneous skinfolds has been widely used as an index of body fat. Edwards et al. (1955) investigated the design and accuracy of skinfold calipers and made a number of recommendations for their construction which were incorporated in the Harpenden skinfold calipers. They found that the precision of the Harpenden skinfold calipers was adequate and that the dif...

Anthropometric and biochemical data was collected in 195 unmarried Lady Health Visitostudents. The subjects were 16-25 years old. Fifty-six percent were underweight. Triceps skinfold thickness was less than the standard value in 57% cases. Average biochemical values were within the normal range. However, in 6% cases cholesterol values were abnormally high while in 12% low levels were encountered...

Weight, length, and skinfold thicknesses were measured in 4634 term and preterm neonates. Sex and weight/length ratio were important determinants of the amount and distribution of the subcutaneous fat store at birth. Gestational age, weight, length, and other ponderal indices did not explain subcutaneous fat variability.

Our aim in this study was to determine the body fat percentage of teenagers in Diyarbakir, a city in southeast Turkey. The study included 1118 children between the ages of 10 to 15. Basic anthropometric measurements including body-mass index (BMI) and skinfold thickness were taken. The skinfold thickness were measured with a Lange skinfold caliper. Fat mass percentage (FM %) was predicted by us...

The objective is to select the best anthropometric measurements to characterize a healthy elderly population. For that, 1030 healthy elderly persons (508 men and 522 women) living independently or in an institution (in both public and private homes) were enrolled for this population-based, cross-sectional study conducted from February 2004 to May 2005. Anthropometric measurements were made by t...

Standards of triceps and subscapular skinfold thicknesses for 1293 Caucasian newborn infants of gestational ages 37-42 weeks, and of 0-25 kg birthweight intervals between 2-25 and 4-5 kg are presented. Female infants had a greater skinfold thickness than males, and the subscapular skinfold was greater than the triceps. The skinfold thickness in both males and females declined after 40 weeks of ...
