BACKGROUND The use of photoactivated disinfection has had a significant medical and technological effect in bacterial inactivation, as an alternative to conventional antimicrobial methods. The main goal of this study was to investigate the effect of photoactivated disinfection on Streptococcus mutans, when Radachlorin(®) was used as a photosensitizer. METHODS Streptococcus mutans samples of t...

OBJECTIVES Dental caries and periodontal diseases are caused by infection of teeth and supporting tissues due to complex aggregate of bacteria known as biofilm, firstly colonized by streptococci. The main purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of toluidine blue O (TBO) and Radachlorin® in combination with a diode laser on the viability of Streptococcus mutans. ...

INTRODUCTION The aim of this study is the evaluation of the effect of Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy with Radachlorin on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. New windows are open in the antimicrobial field so-call Photodynamic therapy that incorporates a nonpoisonous photosensitizer (PS) with innocuous special wavelength photons to excite the PS. METHODS Two strains of bacteria use...

UNLABELLED Streptococcus mutans is the main etiological agent for dental caries. Recently, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been introduced as a new modality in bacterial decontamination. OBJECTIVE This in vitro study was carried out to evaluate the susceptibility of Streptococcus mutans to antibacterial PDT using two different photosensitizers and light sources. MATERIAL AND METHODS Standard...

Promising material for hybrid photodynamic therapy consisting of Ce0.5Y0.35Tb0.15F3 crystalline nanoparticles and Radachlorin is reported. One possible option conjugation using polyethylenimine (PEI) tested. The energy transfer reaches 28%. It shown that conjugates CeF3—Tb3+ NPs PEI—are stable, the distance between photosensitizer molecules about 5 nm.
