The aging of insulating materials can be estimated by an electrical breakdown occurring in electrical components so that the relationship between lifetime, failure probability and reliability of electrical components may be studied using the life models in high voltage cables networks. In last decades with attention to higher features as electrical, thermal, mechanical characteristic, widely cr...

damping of a full-scale cable with a pair of passive–on magnetorheological (mr) dampers was tested. a cable of 215.58m long with the first mode frequency of 0.658hz was tensioned horizontally in cable prefabrication factory. two mr dampers were attached to the cable in an angle in the plane perpendicularly to the cable axis in 5m length from the cable anchorage. the applied voltage level was 0v...

Power Line Communication (PLC) has been considered as attractive media for high speed data transmission, particularly for applications like home networking, internet, voice and data services. For the use of the low voltage networks as high speed data channel the path carrier frequencies within the range up to 30 MHz must be considered. The development of suitable communication systems and the p...

This paper investigates over-voltage transients on ac induction motors when connected through a cable of arbitrary length to a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) consisting of a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) inverter with Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) power devices. Factors contributing to a motor over-voltage transient equal to a theoretical twice dc bus voltage are first described using...

Power cable is widely used in Extra High Voltage (EHV), High Voltage (HV) transmission, Medium Voltage (MV) sub-transmission, and MV / Low Voltage (LV) distribution applications. Basically, the protection principles used for cable are similar with the ones for overhead transmission line. However, the inherent characteristics of cables make its fault behavior more complicate than that of transmi...

many mobile and off-grid devices include electronics and other electrical consumers like servo drives, which need a quite low supply power. since the price for photovoltaic modules drops continuously, photovoltaic power supply is interesting in more and more applications. in solar powered systems, a battery is needed to store energy for the night and cloudy periods. the power electronics of suc...

A National Grid funded research project at Southampton has investigated possible methodologies for data acquisition, transmission and processing that will facilitate on-line continuous monitoring of partial discharges in high voltage polymeric cable systems. A method that only uses passive components at the measuring points has been developed and is outlined in this paper. More recent work, fun...

This paper describes the analysis of the over voltage phenomena at the motor terminal of an inverter fed induction motor. The high frequency model for a three phase cable and induction motor is simulated using Simulink and analyzed for the over voltage for different cable length. The results indicate that the over voltage is a function of cable length and it also depends on gauge of the cable.

This article shows investigations of partial discharge (PD) in a high voltage cable system using different voltage shapes. The two sources which were used for energizing the cable system, are 50 Hz alternating current (AC) generated by a high voltage transformer and damped alternating current (DAC). Both systems can be used for PD detection with use of a standard PD measurement circuit existing...

In order to carry out the simulation of the electrical noise, a pulse generator with fast rise time is needed. For this reason, the pulse generator using a coaxial cable is usually used. The pulse generator consists of a DC power supply, a charging resistor, a coaxial cable, a relay, and a terminator. Even the same voltage as charge voltage was outputted when the termination of the impedance wa...
