Pasteurella multocida and Ascaridia galli are observed with high prevalences in free range chickens in Denmark, but the impact is unknown. A study was carried out to examine the interaction between A. galli and P. multocida in chickens and the impact on production. Five groups, each with 20 18-week-old Lohmann Brown chickens were infected. Group 1 was orally infected with 1000+/-50 embryonated ...

1. Mitochondria isolated from the gut-dwelling nematodes Nippostrongylus brasiliensis and Ascaridia galli (muscle and gut + reproductive tissue) were examined for cytochromes, and it was observed that N. brasiliensis and A. galli muscle tissue mitochondria contained a-, b- and c-type cytochromes, but their stoichiometries were quite different (1:2:1.9 and 1:11.4:13.6 respectively); A. galli gut...

Galli-Galli disease is a rare genodermatosis currently regarded as an acantholytic variant of Dowling-Degos disease. The 2 diseases have the same clinical features: reticular hyperpigmented macules in the great skin folds, erythematous scaly papules and plaques, comedo-like lesions, and pitted perioral scars, and the only differentiating characteristic is the histological finding of acantholysi...

Thirteen adult indigenous chickens from Oodi, Kgatleng district, Botswana, were examined for helminth parasites. Two species of nematodes, Ascaridia galli and Heterakis gallinarum, and species of the cestode genus Raillietina, were recovered. A. galli and H. gallinarum were the most commonly seen parasites. The nematode A. galli occurred concurrently with Raillietina spp.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The crista galli is part of the ethmoid bone and, as such, it could be expected that aeration of the crista would come from ethmoid cells. After observing crista pneumatization from the frontal sinuses in several cases, we undertook this study to establish how often crista galli pneumatization came from the frontal sinuses rather than from the ethmoid complex. MATERIALS...

The effect of dietary manganese from two different sources on chicks (uninfected and infected with Ascaridia galli) was studied. Chick diet was supplemented with 0.9 g Mn2+ kg-1 food either in the form of MnSO4.H2O or 2Gly. MnCl2.2H2O for 20 days. Chicks were divided into six groups: group 0, control; group 1, control + MnSO4.H2O; group 2, control + 2Gly.MnCl2.2H2O; group 3, infected with A. ga...
