amoebiasis is one of the most important human diseases in many countries especially in tropical and sub-tropical regions. this study was carried out from august 1999 to february 2002 in order to determine the ratio of entamoeba histolytica / entamoeba dispar in some regions of iran. a total of 16,592 stool samples were randomly collected from different agegroups in central, northern and souther...
Abstract: Background and Aim: In most part of the world detection of cysts and trophozoites of Entamoeba is based on morphological structure of this species in stool sample by microscopy. However, microscopic examination is unable to distinguish between similar morphological protozoa such as Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar. A simple and cost-effective method is needed in medical lab...
the genus entamoeba contains many species, six of which (entamoeba histolytica, entamoeba dispar, entamoeba moshkovskii, entamoeba polecki, entamoeba coli, and entamoeba hartmanni) reside in the human intestinal lumen. entamoeba histolytica is the causative agent of amebiasis in humans with a worldwide distribution. correct detection of e.histolytica is frequently a major concern in diagnostic ...
background: entamoeba moshkovskii and e. dispar are impossible to differentiate microscopically from the pathogenic species e. histolytica . multiplex polymerase chain reaction (multiplex pcr) is a widespread molecular biology technique for amplification of multiple targets in a single pcr experiment. methods: for detection and differentiation of the three-microscopy indistinguishable entamoeba...
To address the molecular diversity and occurrence of pathogenic species of the genus Entamoeba spp. in wild non-human primates (NHP) we conducted molecular-phylogenetic analyses on Entamoeba from wild chimpanzees living in the Issa Valley, Tanzania. We compared the sensitivity of molecular [using a genus-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR)] and coproscopic detection (merthiolate-iodine-for...

This study investigated the presence of Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba dispar, and Entamoeba moshkovskii in stool samples from a patient population in Sydney, Australia. Stool samples were tested by microscopy and PCR. Five patients were found with E. histolytica infections, while E. dispar and E. moshkovskii were observed in 63 (70.8%) and 55 (61.8%) patients, respectively, by PCR. This is t...
Entamoeba dispar, a common noninvasive parasite, is indistinguishable in its cysts and trophozoite forms from Entamoeba histolytica, the cause of invasive amebiasis, by microscopy. To differentiate the two species seems to be a problem for laboratory diagnosis. Recent experimental studies showed that E. dispar can be considered pathogenic too. We present a rare case of enteritis due to E. dispar.
BACKGROUND Stool microscopy, the commonly used test for diagnosis of intestinal amebiasis, is unreliable as it does not differentiate Entamoeba histolytica, the causative agent for amebiasis, from non-pathogenic Entamoeba dispar and Entamoeba moshkovskii. METHODS Two hundred and forty-six stool samples collected between January to February 2009, were examined microscopically for E. histolytic...
The genus Entamoeba contains many species, six of which (Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba dispar, Entamoeba moshkovskii, Entamoeba polecki, Entamoeba coli, and Entamoeba hartmanni) reside in the human intestinal lumen. Entamoeba histolytica is the causative agent of amebiasis and is considered a leading parasitic cause of death worldwide in humans. Although recent studies highlight the recovery...
