To study the effect of dexmedetomidine priming on convulsion reaction induced by lidocaine. The New Zealand white rabbits were applied for the mechanism study of dexmedetomidine priming for preventing convulsion reaction induced by lidocaine. The influence of dexmedetomidine priming with different doses on the time for convulsion occurrence and the duration time of convulsion induced by lidocain...

BACKGROUND Na + /Ca 2+ exchanger (NCX) plays a crucial role in pentylenetetrazol-induced convulsion. However, it is unclear whether NCX is critically involved in hyperthermia-induced convulsion. In this study, we examined the potential changes in NCX3 in the hippocampus and cerebrocortex of rats with hyperthermia-induced convulsion. METHODS Twenty-one Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigne...

In a study of 23 children admitted to hospital with a febrile convulsion, mild hyponatraemia was found on 8 occasions. In 6 of these cases there was evidence of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone. The hyponatraemia is unlikely to be the cause of the convulsion, but probably predisposes the child to a subsequent convulsion during the same febrile illness.

The 1 mm long Caenorhabditis elegans is one of the prime research tools to study different human neurodegenerative diseases. We have considered the case in which increase in the surrounding temperature of this multicellular model leads to abnormal bursts of neuronal cells that can be linked to seizure or convulsion. The induction of such seizure/convulsion mechanism was done by gradually increa...

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate serum selenium levels and mean platelet volume in children who experience simple febrile convulsion. METHODS The study comprised 42 patients diagnosed with simple febrile convulsions and a control group of 30 healthy children. Blood samples were taken following a febrile convulsion. Selenium levels in the serum of both the patients and control subjects w...

INTRODUCTION Paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia is characterized by sudden attacks of involuntary movements. It is often misdiagnosed clinically as psychogenic illness, which distresses the patients to a great extent. A correct diagnosis will improve the quality of life in patients with paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia because treatment with low doses of anticonvulsants is effective for elimina...

Erythrophleum ivorense is used traditionally for many ailments such as convulsion, swellings, pain and emesis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the anticonvulsant and sedative activities of extracts of Erythrophleum ivorense stem bark in mice. Anticonvulsant effect of the extracts was assessed using picrotoxin, pentylenetetrazole and strychnine-induced convulsion and sedative effect w...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate anti convulsant effect of aerial parts of Phyllanthus longiflorus (PHL). MATERIALS AND METHOD Methanol extract of aerial parts of PHL (MPHL) was prepared by continuous hot extraction method using Soxhlet apparatus. MPHL at the doses 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg were administered to male albino mice by oral route and the activity was assessed against maximal electro shock (MES)...
